How to Migrate to version 4

To migrate your configuration from version 3 to version 4, please follow the next steps:

Step 1. Export your templates

  1. In Policy Patrol 3, go to Templates > <folder> and open the properties of the template.
  2. Click the Export button in the toolbar and save the template. If you have also entered text in the Plain or RTF/Plain tab, you must select this tab and click on the Export button again. Click Cancel.
  3. Repeat these steps for each template you wish to migrate to version 4.

Step 2. Export your filters

  1. In Policy Patrol 3, go to Filters > <folder> and open the properties of the filter.
  2. Click the Export button in the toolbar and save the filter. Click Cancel.
  3. Repeat these steps for each filter you wish to migrate to version 4.

Step 3. Copy your rule descriptions

  1. In Policy Patrol 3, go to Rules > <folder>.
  2. Select the rule you wish to migrate.
  3. In the Rule description pane, select the text, right-click and select Copy. Now Paste it into a text document.
  4. Repeat this step for every rule.
  5. Save the text document so that you can recreate the rules in version 4. If you would also like to recreate the same rule names, you can make a screenshot of the rule list in Policy Patrol.

Step 4. Uninstall Policy Patrol 3

Make a copy of your C:\PolicyPatrolData directory. Now uninstall Policy Patrol 3 by going to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Select Policy Patrol in the list and click Remove. When the uninstall program asks you whether you wish to remove your configuration, select Yes. The IIS service will be restarted by the Policy Patrol uninstallation. If you have Kaspersky Anti-virus installed, select this program from the Add/Remove Programs list and click Remove. In version 4, Kaspersky is installed with the Policy Patrol program so there is no need to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus separately.

Step 5. Install Policy Patrol 4

Install Policy Patrol 4 according to the instructions in the Policy Patrol 4 Quick Start guide.

Step 6. Import your templates

  1. In Policy Patrol 4, Go to Templates > <folder> and click New.
  2. Click Next in the Welcome screen.
  3. Select Email notification, Tag or Disclaimer template. Click Next.
  4. Click on the Import button in the toolbar. If you also have a Plain or RTF/Plain tab, click on the tab and click on the Import button again. Click Next.
  5. Enter the name and description for the filter and click Finish.
  6. Repeat these steps for every template you wish to migrate.

Step 7. Import your filters

  1. In Policy Patrol 4, Go to Filters > <folder> and click New.
  2. Click Next in the Welcome screen.
  3. Select Word/phrase, Attachment or Email/domain filter. Click Next.
  4. Click on the Import button in the toolbar. Click Next.
  5. Enter the name and description for the filter and click Finish.
  6. Repeat these steps for every filter you wish to migrate.

Note: we advise you not to export your version 3 sample Spam and Offensive word/phrase filters, since we have included an improved word black list in version 4.

Step 8. Recreate your rules in version 4

  1. Go to the Rules node.
  2. Select Enterprise, Disclaimer or Compression rules.
  3. Recreate your rules using the text document with Rule descriptions.
  4. The list of version 4 changes will help you create your new rules.
